BEST IN SHOW

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Evesham & District’s Premier open show. The July weather was a bit mixed and I was lucky as I managed to complete almost all my judging outside in between the showers. Some of the other judges were not so lucky.

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for the kind invitation and for making me so welcome.

Recently appointed Secretary Lois Wilson was working hard with her team to keep everything in order under the watchful eye of the Club‘s Patron, Marion Reeves. Marion has been associated with this open show for many years and must be congratulated for the way she has taken it forward ultimately achieving Premier status. She has left it in a very healthy state.

Many thanks to my two very efficient stewards, who did a great job of keeping everything moving as there was quite a lot to get through. Well done!

The group judges had sent 7 quality dogs through for me to examine for BIS.

BIS-Irish Wolfhound Gaelmarque Treasured by Goldswift JW

For BIS I selected this lovely Irish Wolfhound and she completely filled my eye. I had judged her earlier in the day as she was best exhibit in the competitive and well filled vulnerable native breeds stakes. I was delighted to see her again in the BIS ring. She was indeed both muscular and graceful. Despite her size she was feminine and she moved very soundly for such a big dog. This was topped off with great condition and sympathetic handling. Every time I looked at her she was standing right and I felt she could not be denied.

Res BIS-Boxer Winuwuk Silent Witness

This Boxer is still quite young, so there is more to come from her. She caught my eye soon as she came into the ring as she screams Boxer with her typical proportions, lovely outline, cracking head  and super bone and condition. She had that typical slightly clownish Boxer enthusiasm about her which kept her handler on her toes but to be honest that just endeared her to me. I have to say that every time I looked at her she was giving her best and could not be denied. An exciting prospect.

BPIS-Border Terrier Glebeheath Olaf

I judged this lovely Border Terrier puppy in the breed and was delighted to see that he had gone on to win the puppy group. Super size, typical outline, head developing well, good tail carriage and is sound in all directions. Should have a very bright future.

Res best puppy-Newfoundland Nandobears You’ll Never Walk Alone (Imp Deu)

Promising young man, good bone for age. Active for his size. He is masculine, in lovely coat and condition and moved well.

BVIS-Siberian Husky Ch Amical Snow White

This was one of my stars of the day. In fact the veteran line up was quite strong. Remarkably, she is 12 years of age. I thought she was extremely well balanced, moderate in all departments, light on her feet, in super coat and condition and presented a super outline, whenever I was looking at her. A born showgirl who clearly loves it. Her quality just shone through.

Reserve best veteran-Norwegian Buhund  Ch Maidofcopper for Koromandel JW (Imp Fin)

Another of the stars of the day and pushed the winner hard. She too showed her head off and was presenting a lovely typical outline whenever I looked at her. Well- proportioned and another who was accurate on the move. Not surprised to see that she is a champion.

Three most promising youngsters, all from the same litter.
P (4,1)
1) Philo’s Sunhouse Black Is Back at Salmonmist (AI) BP & PG1. PG1
2) Martin’s Sunhouse Black T’Square One (AI). Of the same super quality as 1. Just needing more practice to demonstrate her many virtues. With super bone, stands on great legs and feet with good pasterns front and rear.  A gorgeous head and eye. Reachy neck and correct in angulation. Again, so well balanced. When she cooperated, had a lovely stride. Expertly presented and handled.
3) Martin’s Sunhouse I’ll Be Black (AI)

J (4,1)
1) Matthews & Adams’ Carofel  Wings Of Hope, RBOB. Caught my eye. A quality orange and white, certainly an aristocratic outline and well proportioned throughout, holding himself so well.  The best of bone, feet and with straight forelegs. Superb in topline and with  well carried and correct tail. Good depth to ribs and short coupled. Masculine in head and in profile super depth to flews. Lengthy neck flows smoothly to topline. Complimentary angles and ground covering gait.  Handled and presented to full advantage.
2) Webb’s Tenshilling Jimmy Mack JW. Has the most delightful head, dark eye and pigment. Muscular, slightly arched neck.   Well boned with super, straight forelegs. Good depth to brisket and short coupled. Just needing maturity to enhance his body properties further. Not quite the freedom in movement of 1, today. Well presented and quietly handled.
3) Keaney’s Flinthill Hot Mail

PG (6,4)
1) Stilgoe & Fox’s Teisgol Snow Queen JW. Two litter sisters built on similar lines, both with well balanced angulation and nicely bodied, being short coupled too and with good tails. Both in fine condition and sympathetically handled. This girl had a most pleasing head, straight front legs and good feet. Covered the ground freely.
2) Stilgoe & Oliver’s Teisgol Heaven Sent JW. I wrote in my notes that she wasn’t as relaxed on the stack, this affecting her outline. However, once placed she looked a different bitch and could well have taken the class had she performed earlier. Strength in neck into a good topline with correctly carried tail. A lovely dark eye and good
pigment. Just slightly preferred the head shape of 1.

O (7,3)
1) Martin’s Sunhouse You’re Knicked, BOB & G1
2) Philo’s Tenshilling It’s My Party For Salmonmist JW OSW ShCEx. A tad lighter built than the winner. Super sweep of neck into topline. Well bodied with good spring of rib and short coupled. Super strong hindquarters, good width to muscular thighs and very sound when viewed from the rear, also with ground covering movement. Pasterns front and rear correct, not quite the feet of 1. Correct tail. First class presentation and handling.

Gundog Group

G1 Martin’s Sunhouse You’re Knicked, Delighted to award this outstanding orange and white Pointer, the Group. Judged this boy recently and awarded him VHC in a strong Gundog Stakes class, telling his owner I felt he needed an outdoor ring. Today he excelled, showing just what he is capable of, with a big ring allowing him to demonstrate his terrific movement, so stylish and eating up the ground, with fantastic forward reach and drive behind. Totally balanced, a series of graceful curves, with well constructed forehand and corresponding stifle angulation, so muscular and with great second thigh. Superb bone, legs and feet. Slightly arched, lengthy neck into the best of toplines and with superb body properties. All topped off with the most glorious head and expression, dark eye and pigment and with correct and well carried tail. In first class condition and beautifully presented and handled.

G2 Williams’ Sh Ch Isfryn Spot The Difference Trebettyn, WSS. This boy caught my eye on entering the ring. Top quality male, rising 8 years and so full of breed type. Excelled on the move, active and totally sound as a result of excellent construction. Presented in fine condition, his rich red and white coat gleaming. So balanced, superb body and spring of rib. A great topline and tail set. I especially liked his most lovely head, with soft expression and his strong neck of good length, leading so well to his topline. Handled to full advantage. A pleasure to award him G2.

G3 Turner’s Blazing Bronze Jitterbug With Dazycutter (Imp Nld), Irish Setter. What a delightful youngster, just 3 years old and another to catch my eye. Racy in appearance and yet so totally unexaggerated and with the sweetest head and such a kind eye. Neck flows so well into a strong, correct topline and with super bone, legs and feet. She covered the ground soundly, with ease and style, carrying her tail correctly. In superb coat and condition and beautifully handled.

G4 Cokell’s Carleyquinn Morwenna JW, ESS. Really taken with this liver and white youngster, just over 15 months and so well balanced, most appealing on the stack and moving to cover the ground effortlessly, maintaining outline. In the most fabulous coat and condition and handled to perfection. A delightful head of correct proportions and deep and square in flew. Slightly arched neck leading to well laid shoulders. Body of moderate length and well sprung ribs, strong topline and correct tail set.

Gundog Puppy Group

G1 Philo’s Sunhouse Black Is Back at Salmonmist (AI), Pointer. A super quality black and white pup of just 6 months and looking well balanced at such a tender age, nicely bodied and with a clean outline. So well schooled and enjoying his job, impeccably presented and handled. A delightful head with soft eye and expression. Standing on good legs and feet. Soundly constructed throughout, allowing him to cover the ground, albeit it rather immaturely in front. Pulled out all the stops to take PG1.

PG2 Barnes’ Challowdown Rock With Me, Span (Cocker). Almost a year old, a merry Cocker, with an appealing head and expression. Compact with body developing appropriately for age. Neck flowing well into strong, level topline. Tail well set. He moved freely and soundly with a happy disposition and was nicely handled and presented.

PG3 Bailiff’s Oroshaza Be Be At Cazadorado, HV. Most feminine youngster, medium sized, with a soft and noble expression, enhanced with dark eyes and low set ears. Well proportioned all through, neck flowing well into topline. Length in leg and correct pasterns. Steady and sound on the move. Short, dense coat. In super condition and expertly handled.

PG4 Eggington, Eggington, Eggington & Davis’ Pajanbeck Think Of Me (AI), Ret (FC). Didn’t know it at the time but told later that I judged this boy 6 weeks ago, where he tussled with his litter sister for first place. Continues to develop on the right lines, masculine and with good bone. He again exhibited a great stride, covering the ground with soundness and freedom. A most appealing head and soft expression. Obviously a most biddable boy, showing well for a different handler today.

Rather unsettled on the move.
2nd Coppock and White’s Dinmore Blue Velvet. Litter sister to 1st and hard to separate. My comments for 1st apply to this young lady too. She was all over the place when being moved and both could probably benefit from more schooling.

Good body shape; correct depth of chest reaching the point of elbow; good length; well sprung ribs; a little too much slope on the croup for me; angulations on fore and hindquarters was good and forelegs were straight. WORKING

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge Dobermann’s at your friendly show, thanks to my stewards Steph and Julie for helping everything run smoothly. Thank you to the exhibitors who brought their beautiful dogs under me especially after such a long day showing the day before.

Dobermann:

Puppy (4,2) – Two beautiful puppy bitches present in this class, of different type to each other but both full of quality.  1st, Merrett’s Korifey Sweet Child Of Mine – An 8 month old black and rust bitch of standard size and very elegant, feminine and balanced all through. Her beautiful head piece and expression was what won her the 1st place today for me.  She has the darkest of eyes in the correct almond shape. She has good head planes and the correct earset. A long lean neck into good front angulation which balances with her rear.  Her front legs are straight and finish with tight feet.  Her rear hocks are straight and parallel. She is built squarely with nothing overdone.  On the move she showed good reach and drive and was very precise for such a youngster. Pleased to award her Best Puppy and see her go on to take Puppy Group 2. 2nd, Tant’s Rafthouse Bundlebrent at Granadeya – An 11 month old brown and rust bitch of different style to 1st.  Absolutely packed with quality and I was splitting hairs between these two beautiful girls. This girl was also very balanced and square on a slightly larger frame. She has substance but isn’t coarse. Her head has good planes and her eye is dark, her ear set is correct and she has good depth to her muzzle. Her neck is strong and leads to well laid shoulders and straight parallel legs on tight feet.  She is very solid to go over with a firm topline leading to her well angulated rear. Straight hocks. She moved well round the ring showing good reach and drive.

Junior (1,1)

Post Graduate (3,2) – 1st, Seward’s Teuschons the Fierce Knight with Elleonia JW, this super smart young black and rust male of 19 months caught my eye for his balance and shape. He has substance without being overdone in any area.  His masculine head has correct head planes, dark eye of the correct almond shape with correct ears set high and lying close to his cheeks, excellent underjaw. His neck is strong and leads to good shoulders that balance with his rear.  Strong straight legs on tight feet. He has good spring of rib and a strong loin. Shown in hard condition he moved with enthusiasm exhibiting good reach and drive.  Pleased to award him BOB and very happy to see he took WG2

Limit (1,0) – 1st Thorn’s Grafmax Lucy in the Sky, 3yr 10m old black and rust bitch who is balanced and square in profile. Her head is of correct proportions and has correct planes with a beautiful expression and dark almond shaped eyes. Lovely arch to her neck which is strong and lean. Balanced angles front and rear. She has enough forechest and good spring of rib. She moved with beautiful side profile action. RBOB

Leonbergers

Junior (3)
1st  Watson’s Lunahai Astronomy Domine 18 month old bitch of good size and substance, maturing well into a substantial girl, although slightly long in body. She has a lovely strong yet feminine head of correct type, with scissor bite, well placed ears and lovely brown oval eyes that together give an excellent expression. Good length of neck, correct angles fore and aft, still firming up in her top line, strong limbs and well off for bone. She moves soundly with a steady correct gait and tail carriage.
2nd Lear-Schofield’s Alfross Tulabo Beaumaris 13 month old dog still very much in a transitional stage. He presents a somewhat square outline, which could lengthen with age, with a level topline, nice length of neck and the beginnings of a lovely, full and richly coloured coat. He has a strong masculine head with a full black mask, correct eye and well placed ears, is a bit loose in the flews, but overall has a very typical head coming on. He is well off for bone and has strong, well made shoulders and correct angles front and back, but he does tend to be a touch left – right at the front. He is moving well for his age with a lovely tail carriage.

Post Graduate (5)
1st Pugh’s Alfross Tulabo Xavier a 2 and a half year old masculine male of good size and substance wearing a dark tipped red coat with full mane still developing. His outline is excellent and says Leonberger at a glance. Has a lovely masculine head with full black mask, kind, rich brown, correctly shaped eyes, well placed expressive ears – although he could perhaps benefit from a touch more back-skull. He has a strong muzzle and under-jaw with correct bite, and although he is losing a bit of black pigment in his lips, he still has a lovely typical expression. He has an excellent top line and a gently rounded croup, correct shoulders and strong, parallel front limbs with excellent feet. His rear angles are also correct and he stands four-square with minimum fuss. He moves with steady power and grace, finished with a lovely correct tail. BOB and I was pleased to see him subsequently placed 4th  in a strong working group.
2nd    Cleary’s Benellieson Time In Motion a 19 month old bitch of excellent size and correct height to length proportions. Still some way to go for full maturity but she is showing great promise. Her outline is ideal, with excellent balance, super topline and length of neck. She has a very good typical head with dark mask topping rich brown eyes, excellent ears, correct under-jaw and a lovely profile. She is developing well with good bone and harmonious structure front and back, but still a touch adolescent at times, although when she gets into a rhythm, she moves with drive and elegance. RBOB

Open (2/1)
1st Wescomb’s Fieldshouse Sun Dancer 3 year old mid-sized bitch with a lion-red coat. She has a black mask just reaching to her lovely, sweet brown eyes.  Her ears are a touch low set, which, combined with a slightly oval skull, produces a less than ideal head. She has balanced height to length proportions as well as angles front and back, but she is carrying a touch too much weight for her structure and this is causing her topline to sag a bit. She is a willing and sound mover, with correct tail carriage and she displayed a happy outgoing character.

Thank you to the officeholders and committee for inviting me to judge some breeds in the Utility group, at this very well run Premier Open show. Most of the dogs were
of very high quality and a delight to judge. Thank you to my very professional, efficient, helpful stewards, Colin and Michelle Stanley. Some of the best stewards I have had for a very long time. A shame we got soaked when trying to judge outside, but indoor accommodation was adequate.

Bulldog

I found all exhibits in good health and fit for show.

Junior (1)

1.  Crothers’ Hazembulls Raspberry Beret. Of correct size and weight for her age. Head shape good, with skull relatively large in circumference and furrow extending up the middle. Round eyes nicely positioned. Rose ears set high on top corners of skull. Mouth OK. Correct ‘tacked on’ shoulders. Good body shape and condition, although I would have liked more flow of her topline, however, her belly was tucked up. Tail set and movement OK.

Postgraduate (3)

1.   Cradock’s Gypsytart Pin Up Girl. A very nice looking red and white bitch, just over a year old. Very good shaped head with skull relatively large in circumference. Flat forehead with furrow. Good ear placement and fine wrinkle, not overdone. Nice clear, dark, round eyes and correct mouth. Nostrils large, wide and Open. Good front and bone leading to neat feet. Body well ribbed. Lovely flowing ‘bulldog’ topline. Slight fall behind shoulders, rise to loins and curving to the tail. Good tuck up and tail set. One of the best movers. BEST OF BREED.

3.    Mayo’s Gasholi Starlight Evie.

Open (3)

A hard class to judge.

1.      Crowthers’ Hazembulls Paris. A very nice shaped head, with good flat wrinkled skull, having well placed rose ears, dark eyes with good width between them. Well arched strong neck leading to broad back with rise over loin, deep brisket and good tuck up. Good hindquarters. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2.      Parker’s Andlare Miss Fire at Albionpride. Attractive quality bitch all through. Good head properties with flat skull, nice width of muzzle and moderate turn up. Clean dark eyes and wide-Open nostrils. Straight well boned front legs, plenty of brisket, enough spring of ribs and tuck up. I felt she did not have the flow of topline and mouth of my No 1.

3.       Cradock’s Kinlockbulls Swiss Toni.

Dalmation

Thank you to the exhibitors for a wonderful entry, both quantity and quality. I am keen on good movement and enjoyed judging your lovely breed.

Puppy (7)

There were a couple of apprehensive puppies at a show for the first time in this class. I wanted to give them time and a chance to settle down to show themselves off. Then the terrible rain came, we had to abandon to the wet weather sheds and start all over again.

1.      Richards & Davies’ Hafwenna King of the North. Absolutely lovely in every way. Balanced, strong, muscular and capable of endurance. 8-month-old dog Puppy, who should go far. Correct head shape with flat skull, round sparkling eyes and good ear set. Fairly long, nicely arched neck. Clean shoulders and straight, strong round boned forelegs. Well sprung ribs, level back, strong loin slightly arched. Rounded, muscular hindquarters. Smooth, powerful movement with long strides. Evenly distributed spots of correct size. BEST PUPPY.

2.      Bradley’s Hafwenna Valyria. Sister to above and most of the same attributes. Carried her tail rather high, but I thought the tail set was OK. She had a nice feminine head. Enough neck and level topline.  Good hindquarters, giving her the same lovely movement.

3.         Addis’ Lilibetbijou Greatest Love.

4.         Addis’ Lilibetbjiou She’s the One.

4.       Kaal’s Schunikka Ifor Dream.

Postgraduate (8)

1.      Williamson’s Shydally Ultimate Edition. Although placed third in the Junior class, I found him a very nice specimen who appeared to get better as time went on. A well built, balanced, masculine dog, well boned and muscled, with well distributed black spots. Nicely proportioned masculine head with flat skull. Good eyes giving intelligent expression. Well placed ears. Fairly long, well arched neck. Good depth of chest and ribs extending well back. Nicely bodied, round, compact feet with well arched toes. Correct tail set and carriage. Very good hind action propelling him around the ring. He won this class on movement as he moved smoothly, powerfully, rhythmically with long strides.

2.       Wootton’s Tolkain Caliban. A very nice, elegant dog, who I initially placed first, but felt he did not move with the long stride of the above. He had good sized spots on an immaculate white coat. Well-proportioned head, flat skull, with good eyes and ear placement. Correct length of neck. Nice depth of chest, ribs well sprung and powerful level back. Well-muscled hindquarters. Moved well.

3.       Chappell & Williams’ Steyndal Star Sapphire with Waltzaway.

5.       Chappell & Williams’ Nalderhill Aphrodite at Waltzaway.

Open (7)

1.      England & Edens’ Dalens Queen of the Seas at Silverspot. A very striking bitch with a lot of quality. She nearly threw her chances away by playing up her handler. However, when she finally behaved herself and concentrated, she was the one to beat with outline and movement. A really beautiful bitch. Well balanced feminine head, with flat skull. Round eyes with plenty of sparkle, giving an intelligent expression. Ears high set.  Neck of moderate length. Good straight front with strong round boned forelegs and compact feet. Good turn of stifles, with well-developed second thighs to aid her with her wonderful movement. Hocks firm. Good tail set. Great freedom of movement, smooth, powerful with long strides. Very ‘Fit for Purpose’. Her coat is in excellent condition and well spotted. Such a likable character.  BEST OF BREED.

In excellent coat for a youngster. Very pretty light colour, but had black eye rims and points. Tail profusely covered with long spreading hair. It was difficult to assess his movement on the day. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

Postgraduate (1)

1.      Foster’s Bemojo Pearls of Honey. A bitch lacking in top coat, spoiling the outline in this type of breed.  Correct head with triangular ears. She decided not to behave making it difficult to assess movement.

Open (2)

1.  Francis, Pearce & Roberts’ Ch. Longsdales Rebel Rouser at Cwrtafon JW. A beautiful black dog. Not surprised he is a champion. He produced a lovely outline and moved well. Ribbed well back and short loin. Muscled hindquarters and well bent stifles. She moved very well, smoothly, effortlessly with reach and stride. Wonderful double coat. I was so pleased she was placed runner up Best Utility Puppy. BEST PUPPY.

2.       Green’s Verony Looks Like a Lady. A very nice, well balanced 9-month-old bitch Puppy who was not so mature, but very nice and square. Feminine, well proportioned head. Correct large, round eyes. Medium length neck.   Well placed shoulders, straight front with correct feet. Nicely bodied with good depth of chest, level topline and spring of ribs. Muscled hindquarters and well bent stifles and good tail carriage. Moved well with good reach and drive.

3.       Tonge’s Araki Santana for Aonachmor.

Junior (5)

1.       Green’s Verony Danish Romance. Not much to choose between the first two. I see I have judged this one before. Nice square outline, black and white in colour. Very smart and presented in wonderful condition. Super reverse scissor bite. Well-proportioned head with pleasing expression. Correct neck. Excellent front assembly. Good body shape and bone overall. Level topline and good turn of stifle. Nice tailset with tail carried in a gay curl over back. Moved very well with reach and drive. She is in good overall muscular condition and has an abundance of well-presented coat. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2.       Chessell’s Araki Areu the Queen of Bees for Stylaxian JW. Very nice and similar attributes as above. A striking golden and white colour. She too is square in body with a super head. Well laid shoulders and good body. Not quite the topline of above and appeared longer in back. Enough bone and ribbed well back. Bent stifles with low set hocks. Correct set tail and good feet. Moved well. In good coat, but not quite the finish of above.

3.       Tonge’s Araki Santana for Aonachmor.

Postgraduate (4)

1.     Plank’s Araki All About Koori Bear. Black and white parti-colour. Well-constructed and presenting a very nice outline. Good head. Medium length skull, narrowing slightly from ear to eye. Strong, muscular neck. Good shoulders and straight fore legs. Level topline, well-muscled hindquarters and hocks well let down. Moved out well.

2.       Plummer, Plummer, Knight & Bingham’s Home Town Glory by Tetsikarma. Very well presented in excellent double coat and very well handled. Moved well with reach and drive.

Open (5)

1.      Plummer’s Araki Dream Perfection for Tetsikarma JW. Both bitches appeared nice, but this one had the edge, with a very nice square shape and good construction. Typical head with correct proportions of skull to muzzle. Eyes were dark and round, giving the correct expression. Strong, muscular neck flowing into well laid shoulders and straight fore legs. Depth of brisket to elbows. Firm, level topline and strong loins. Well-muscled hindquarters, bent stifles and hocks well let down. Good bone and typical large feet. Tail is set high and carried well. Great mover, enhanced by her handler. Smooth effortless stride with reach and drive from the rear. Lovely side gait. Well presented in good coat. BEST OF BREED.

2.      Plank’s Rogell’s Victim of the Kick (Imp Nor). A very nice, beautifully presented 6-year-old dog. He appeared to have almost too much coat. Overall, he was very nice but did not appeal as much as the bitch above. He moved OK, but not with the same amount of reach and drive.

1st: HUCKER’S BEVANRAY TERRYPENDRY. 10 months old, pied dog. Very pleased to go over this lovely puppy. A balanced, sturdy unexaggerated puppy with an appealing masculine head and alert expression. Lovely medium sized ‘bat ears’, set high but with enough space between them. Dark eyes of moderate size, well defined stop, nicely broad jaw with a correct slightly undershot mouth. Lovely open nostrils. Good cushioning on his muzzle with enough lip to cover teeth when mouth is closed. Moderate neck that is well arched, nice front angulations with broad shoulders leading on to straight front legs set wide apart. Really nice depth of chest and spring of rib. Strong short loin. Topline is gently roached as it should be with good ‘cut up’. Moderately angulated at the back and beautifully muscled at this age. Nice and sound on the move, lovely to see how confident he is whilst moving. Lovely puppy who stood out in the entry for me,  I could not deny giving him BOB and BPIB. Pleased to see him win the Puppy Group later on.

potential
for the
future. A little raw right now meaning he lacks coat but what is there is
correct. He moved
well with
drive although a little unsettled I think due to the noise in the halls.

balance,
lovely apple dome head, good shoulders, level back and nice tail set. A bit more
maturity
will I’m sure

sound. Well balanced with a sweet head and lovely dark eyes. Level topline,
good well
laid
shoulders and firm rear angulation. She moved well although a fraction
unsettled. RBIB.
This was a
tough choice in this class as both dogs suffered from being unsettled which
made it a hard
class to
judge.
2. Skinner’s Mujerose Bobby’s Heart in Heaven JW. Slightly more mature than first place with
ample
fringing and
a lovely tail plume. Another unsettled during moving but still enough to show

movement with
good forward reach. Head is well balanced, but he could do with a slightly
longer
neck to
accentuate his good front.

Junior (4,1)1. Hill’s
Penemunde Asia. This hairless male is full of spirit showing many qualities I
was looking for.
Coat was
positioned correctly and of the right texture with the characteristic smooth
body. Out of
all the dogs
I judged in this breed he was by far the best mover with super reach and drive
with a
lovely
outline. The rounded elongated head with tight lips and dark eyes gave him the
correct
expression
and balanced head. Long sloping neck leads onto well angulated shoulders and
good de

a very nice,
elegant bitch and shows huge potential as she is correctly made and sports some
lovely
angulation
allowing that active free movement to show through. She is, however, clearly
well
spirited and
a handful for her owner and unfortunately this did affect her movement although

were still
small opportunities to see her movement. Hopefully she will calm for her owner

lovely strong

2. James’

This was a
very nice and flashy bitch shown to her advantage by a young handler. Superb

a little

This was a
really lovely class to judge and pleased to have had such quality to judge.
This bitch is
super breed
type with absolute soundness. From outline to head to movement she was exactly
what I was
looking for. She has a very proud and elegant presence in the ring. Narrow head
with
strong muzzle
and scissor bite with high ears leading onto a moderately arched neck, well
laid
shoulders of
moderate angulation. She moved parallel from the rear and showed super drive.

body with
moderate
angulation and correct topline. Moved well and true. Elegantly balanced head
correct to
standard with
good high set ears, oval eyes and a strong muzzle with scissor bite.

1st Curry’s WILACHANS GRYFFINDOR
FOR DAVANKIRK 8 months old dog. Still very much a baby but with lots to like
about him. Pleasing proportions and outline. Masculine head with well placed
ears with sufficient fringing for his age. He needs to tighten a little in
pasterns as sometimes stands a little East/West. Moves well for his age when he
settles. Coat correct for his age. Well-presented. RBOB and BP

2nd Anderson’s KEOMANDI JUST A
LITTLE MAGIC AT PAPPRETTY 8 months old bitch who really appealed, she has such
a feminine shape with all the right proportions. Beautiful head with well
placed ears and I found it very frustrating that she just would not cooperate
with her handler and move with her head up at all and was far more interested
in sniffing the ground and what was going on around her. Whilst I always prefer
a puppy to behave like a puppy (and not a robot) and have fun in the ring, particularly
when they are very young, I still do need to assess a few steps of movement! With
a little more training and maturity she will be something special.

Handling Classes

Thoroughly impressed with a large amount of handlers on the day throughout all age groups including multiple of lovely up and coming juniors especially some in the 6-11 class who I think will be impressive in the future. Very refreshing to hear lots of polite handlers not only to me but also to other competitors. One thing I would like to point out is the number of those wearing trainers, mainly in younger classes. Most juniors were dressed very smartly but I feel that trainers do spoil this. It has become more popular over the past few years to wear them but for the overall look it really does help to put on some smarter shoes for the ring, I was brought up showing as a junior and this was frowned upon when I was competing, it just helps the overall picture and neatness.

Junior Handling Association
Class 499: 6-11 6(2)
1st Abigail Twigg, 9 years old. A lovely handler who had her dog presented well at all times. Abigail stood her dog advantageously at all times and moved them out confidently at the correct pace. Lovely straight lines, neat corners of the triangle. Abigail also shadowed well, moving when necessary to make sure her dog could be seen at all times. Just needs to make sure that she shows all three sides when showing the teeth and to keep the lead neat and tidy when showing these to the judge. Overall, a very nice performance.
2nd Thomas Taylor, 11 years old. Another impressive handler who showed his dog well. Lovely pattern work with straight lines and neat corners, moving his dog at the correct pace, Thomas also quickly corrected himself when turning at the end of the up and down to ensure he did not break the golden rule. Similarly to the first, Thomas just needs to make sure he shows all three sides when showing the dog’s teeth and to make sure to keep the lead neat when doing so. It was a difficult decision between these two handlers and the deciding factor was that Abigail shadowed whilst I was walking around the final line up. Overall, two strong performances and I am sure these two handlers will continue to do well in the future.

Class 500: 12-16 8(5)
1st Morgan Tate Shoosmith, 16 years old. A standout winner for me today. Morgan had her dog stood beautifully at all times, moving at the correct pace with a loose lead. Her individual work was lovely, teeth shown gently and carefully, lines straight, neat corners. She was aware of where I was at all times, changing hands smoothly. Morgan finished off her pattern work at the correct three paces away, stacking her dog quickly, neatly and gently. A polite and attentive handler, really lovely to watch.
2nd Ellie Middle, 15 years old. A nice handler who had a good rapport with her dog. Clean table work, showing teeth well and kept her lead neat at all times. Her pattern work had straight lines, I would’ve preferred to see Ellie walk with this particular dog as she was moving a bit too fast with this one and just make sure you finish your pattern by coming back to the judge on the up and down.

Adult handling
Class 501: 17-30 6(3)
1st Chloe Clark. Chloe showed her Irish Setter beautifully in this class, always having them stood well and on the move they looked great. On her individual work she showed the teeth clearly and gently and once again her dog was stacked beautifully. Just needs to be careful on the up and down that she does not turn the wrong way, coming in between myself and her dog. Overall, a strong performance.
2nd Brenda Jenkins. Another nice and gentle handler who has a good bond with her dog, has a quieter style of handling than the first but not disadvantageously. Brenda had her dog stood nicely, showed the teeth well as well as her pattern work being tidy. Unfortunately, Brenda made the same mistake as the first by turning the wrong way on the up and down, coming between myself and the dog. I would like to see some of the turns in the patterns to be slightly more fluid, apart from that she put on a decent performance.

Class 502: 31-45 9(4)
1st Andrea Keepence-Keyte. Andrea put on a good performance with a somewhat stubborn young dog today who did settle as they got onto their individual pattern work. Free stood well in the line up, moved the dog at the correct pace, stood nicely on the table and was patient with the youngster when he did not want his teeth to be shown. Individual patterns were clean, straight lines with neat corners. A nice handler and I am sure this pair will be lovely as this dog gains more experience in the handling classes.
2nd  Laura Elliot. Another lovely handler who got her dog going very well. She showed the teeth correctly and had a great rapport with her dog. Laura completed her patterns correctly and neatly. The only thing that split her and the winner today was on the final line up her dog was not stood four square.

Class 503: 46+ 15(8)
A lovely class full of good quality and polite handlers!
1st Janet Rice. A great handler who put on a lovely performance with her dog, stood advantageously and moved on a lovely loose lead. On the table she showed the teeth really well, especially on a Tibetan Spaniel as they can be stubborn with this. Her lines were straight, her corners were neat, she finished the pattern work well and shadowed tidily. Just make sure the dog is in line with my feet on the final presentation. Overall, a lovely handler to watch.
2nd Julia Marsden. A handler I enjoyed watching in the class. Neat, gentle and polite at all times. Stood her Bichon advantageously on the table, showed the teeth correctly too. Her patterns were lovely however her lines were not quite as straight as the winner. A very good performance.
